According to photodo.com, the Sigma 70-200 (constant) 2.8 HSM gets a 3.9. 
Heck, the Canon 80-200 even beats the Canon 70-200 by 1/10 of a point. 
But, in reality, anything over a 3.2 is considered "critically" sharp,
right?  So perhaps you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a
3.9 and a 4.2.  Dunno.
