I just tested the 75-300 IS with the 50mm f/1.8 reversed on the end of it
(just holding it in place by hand), and the results through the viewfinder
looked promising. I probably should have done this test to start with. So
I've ordered a pair of Cokin 'P' adapters [and plenty of film :) ] from
B&H. I'll glue them together, take some photos and let the list know how it
goes.

Does anyone have any thoughts on lens hoods with this kind of setup? The
back of the 50mm lens looked a bit vulnerable reversed on the end of the
75-300, and I'm also wondering about flare. On the other hand, the working
distance is so short (seems to be about an inch or so) that there is
probably no room for a hood. I'll probably just make sure that I shelter
the subject and lens from direct sunlight with a translucent Flexfill.

A focusing rail would also be nice to have, but I think I'll see what
results I'm getting before I order one of those.
