Ed,

What were your impressions on image quality with the 2X.  I have a 
70-200/2.8 and was think of adding a 100-400/IS.  But if image quality is 
good I might opt to sell the 70-200 non IS and get the IS version and a 2X 
converter.

As best you can tell, is the combo quality any where close to the 100-400IS. 
  The only down side I was was thinking of using the 100-400 with a 1.4X 
from time to time.
