This is remarkably naive. Sigma, just to pick one, made lenses which were 
compatible with the Canon EOS lineup. Then, Canon released a new camera. 
They didn't call Sigma up to warn them in advance so Sigma could retool, 
they just shipped the camera. As soon as Sigma became aware, they moved 
proactively to alert customers and retailers, to make new lenses compatible 
and to retrofit both retailer's stock and lenses customers had purchased 
earlier. They had no more way of knowing that their lenses wouldn't match 
the new body than anyone else did. It's not as if Canon goes around 
volunteering this sort of stuff -- they want to sell EF lenses after all.
