I stated the Sigma "may" be better optically. I am not most
familiar with 28mm F1.8 lenses, but since the Sigma is a new
design and their EX series have performed very well (IMO)
there is a very good chance it would best the Canon
equivalent (which is an older design) optically.
As to your Leica comment, I would assume you own this lens,
correct? So before you get angry at what I am saying let me
explain. I have used M series and other Leicas, the faster
the lens the poorer the performance at widest aperture. Case
in point, the Summilux-M 35mm F1.4 is OK wide open gets
better as you stop down. If you compare it with the 35mm F2
Summicron at F2 through F4 the Summicron wins hands down. In
order to achieve an F1.4 the certain compromises come into
designing a fast lens. Same goes for the Noctilux 50mm F1.0
v. 50mm Summicron F2, the Summicron again is sharper from F2
through F8. The point here is do not expect an expensive
and fast lens to be sharper than a comparable slower lens
simply because it is expensive or may be designated with
things like L, Aspheric, etc. The reason you pay the high
high price is to get that fast F1 or F1.4 and not necessarily
a superior lens at every aperture.
