Hi While checking other things last night with an EOS3 and 550EX I noticed one thing for which I couldn't find any good reason:
If I set the flash in manual mode (I had it at 1/4 power) and the camera was in Av-mode the shutter speed changed to the fastest flash sync speed 1/200 as soon as the flash was on. If the high-speed sync was on then the shutter speed became 1/8000. I don't remember if the master switch in the 550EX was ON or OFF (but they may behave the same way, anyway). In E-TTL mode the Av-mode worked in the normal way. Why is it designed this way?
