Hi all just got a FS4000 scanner: - Im' very pleased about the first results: colours, grain, sharpness are very good. - it is a little slow (very long when scanning a 120 MB picture with FARE on but this depends a lot on the PC processor. I own only a 450 PIII). - FARE is incredible. I'm starting to backup old slides of my children on CDR and they often have small dust and scratches. FARE really works and removes everything without apparently affecting the picture quality. There was a slide with a scratch in the middle of the face of a portrait from the hair to the neck: very difficult and time consuming to eliminate by hand. FARE did it without any problem. - Filmget 1.01 controls are very poor but this doesn't bother me because I wouls anyway pass through photoshop for adjusting levels and curves. My work flow is getting 4 frames at the time without any manipolation in FILMGET and then copping, leveling, balancing and converting directly in Photoshop. - Filmget doesn't allow you to scan in background, pity. - Slides are scanned well, but require nearly always a retouch, negatives are scanned very well and look nearly perfect in balances (I haven't done many yet). - Noise in dark areas of the slides is really very low. If the contrast, in the slide, is too high, dark areas remain dark but they are actually black and not spread of red or green pixels.
Very pleased with final results. Does someone on the list know if there are some web sites where one can join a photo gallery and create it's own (without paying of course).
