Hi Hugo,
Can't answer for the BP-E1. The PB-E2 including 8 x AA Rayovac ordinary Mn
alkaline cells weighs 678gm. (Supposed to be lighter with Lithium AAs -
which I have yet to see, although I've seen them listed.) The extra buttons
certainly help use when vertical, and it's easy to carry them both in the
Mini-Trekker which I also have, but not when assembled together. Attaching
the PB-E2 allows 3fps (and 6fps), rather than the 4fps of the -3 by itself.
(Not sure what you mean by autonomy, but I guess it should drive more films
through providing its disconnected when you're not using it. My -3 takes a
standing current of a few ma when OFF, and Canon UK have advised that this
is normal - hence remove battery when not in use. Internal memory seems to
keep count of exposures taken for periods of 2 weeks at least.)
I've found the extra weight a real drawback to its use; I just wish they
did a BP-E1 with the extra buttons.
