I would guess the mode 1 is the issue since it is made for hand holding
without panning. I guess I don't understand the "brave enough" statement.  I
do see a jump and drift on the older type IS of the 28-135 when used on a
tripod but on none of the others. Personally I consider IS to be the best
innovation since the SLR.
