Hi Tim, I'm envious. Your 100 f2.8 macro USM not only gives you FTM but also 4cm more distance from the front of the lens to the subject. The old, non USM macro has a deeply recessed front element, so that's possibly where the 4cm comes from. Thanks for the info.
