To be honest, Chip, your experiences with the Omnibounce perfectly mirror 
mine.  I have a 380EX and a few Elan II/IIE bodies, and the Omnibounce only 
really shines for me with a low white ceiling & walls, or in a small space 
(think gondola car).  In these instances I have gotten soft even light.  Big 
rooms or colored ceilings/walls, just forget it.  And it is too small, in my 
experience, to use as a "softbox".

BTW, I see photojournalists using the old "index card bounce" more than 
anything else.
