Many thanks to Tim Franklin, Bob Turner, Grega Fenko and Kim - all of whom leapt into the breech to keep me from having to pull off my own head in complete frustration. I have finally located the lens serial numbers and I can surely testify that they are not made with data retrieval in mind.
After everyone assured me that the numbers were in fact on the lens mount, I found that light at a severe angle and a pocket microscope enabled me to locate the serials. Read them? Well, maybe.
