Chip, yours was a really long mail! If you mean that current consumer lenses
are better then former pro manual focus I can say clearly the're not. And I
am not speakink in theory. I use manual focus
15,20,24,28,35,50,85,105,135,200,400 mm and, definitely they beat all the
consumer AF lenses made today in sharpness, vignetting, distortion and even
bokeh. If you are referring to today pro zooms, I have some too, they are on
pair in sharpness but not so much in distortion, flare or vignetting. Leica
and Carl Zeiss are in other world, much more expensive, better built and not
so modern, but optically better in every field (I have some too)
