Hi Wilber,

>From my own experience, the focus speed is largely dependent on the len's
autofocus motor drive built into the actual lens. I have a EOS 1v and a EOS
30 (Elan 7?) both which focus extremely fast with my collection of various
lens.

I have tested this roughly with two bodys on my 70-200mm F4L lens and
28-70mm F2.8L. Both of the bodies focus as fast as each other.

As for studio use, I fully recommend buying the Contax 645 MF. It handles
like a 35mm SLR. Its AE Meter is accurate when needed, though its autofocus
speed is no where near the Canon. If picture quality is what you want then
the Contax will be your solution. I have some photos i uploaded to
www.photoisland.com. If you would like to view them go to the web page and

Those photos are scanned with a Canon 2400U scanner at 600dpi. It gives you
an idea how smooth the backgrounds can be and shows what the camera is
capable of. I mainly use it on location when doing weddings. I am confident
the camera will perform just as good in a studio.

Cheers,

Ethan

General Question: Can anyone compare for me the focus speed of the
EOS 1v with that of the EOS 3. I'm thinking of using an auto focus
set up for photographing children in a studio setting. I find the EOS 3
works really well with this on location (outdoor sessions), but would
need to test for the indoor work. The old thing that is a concern is the
size of enlargements that I could go to with the 35mm neg. I was able
to do some 16x20 enlargements for the outdoor work and was really
very pleased with the results (Portra 400 and the 28-70 f2.8 glass). Not
quite the results of the Hasselblad, but very close. The other side of that
being that I could never have gotten the spontanious images with the Hassie
that I was able to get with the Canon. Any thoughts in this area are
needed. We are thinking about the Contax 6/4.5 for the studio sessions
as to the larger size of the negative and the speed of the AF.
