your impressions of the two? From the reviews it sounds like the 28-70
2.6-2.8may be slightly better, is this others experience?

Hi,
Never used Tokina 28-70 ATX Pro , but I do have a newer 28-80 and I think
it's great. Based on many reviews, most of the people that had a problem with
this lens are Nikon users. I think there was some compatibility issue.
I like this lens a lot. I have taken many photos with it and never had a
problem with flare, as long as I used a hood. Mine is very sharp and AF
speed is very good, while motor is quiet. AF/MF switch is great too. I use it
with older bodies - 1N, RT and Elan and never had a problem, but it's
possible that with newer ones there may be some compatibility problems. So,
IMO - it's worth the money. On the other hand, 28-70 is proven lens, while
with a bit slower AF and noisier motor, and AF/MF switch more awkward, it's a
very good performer optically. And cheaper. So, if you have a chance - check
both out at the store and see what you like. I think samples of Tokina 28-80
vary more significantly than that of 28-70.
