Hi, Ray: The EOS-1D uses the same AF system as the EOS-1v, in fact they share the same components. Therefore, the EOS-1D supports central-point AF with EF lens/extender combinations having an effective maximum aperture as small as f/8. This would include combinations such as the EF 100-400/5.6L IS USM + EF 1.4x or the EF 300mm f/4L IS USM + EF 2x.

Is it like the 1v which will AF up to f/8 or is it like the D30 which stops at f/5.6? Thanks.
