Both Tamron and Kenko offer an option of more expensive TCs with better
performance (The SP and Pro300 ranges respectively). These are
compatible with this lens and probably worth the extra cost to
anyone who thinks the 80-200 is worth buying.

Even with a 2x converter the lens will have an effective f5.6 aperture
so is in spec to autofocus on any EOS camera, the aperture will not
be correctly reported to the camera though as the lens is not
designed for use with TCs - this means the focus motor won't slow down
the way it does on the 70-200 2.8L which might cause problems acquiring
focus on difficult subjects.

George Yegey has used the Kenko ones with the 80-200 but his web page
with a review of it (http://members.nbci.com/yegey/Reviews.html) seems
to be down at the moment. I use the Kenko 2x with a Sigma 70-200 and
with the 50 1.8 for a lightweight portrait lens and I've been quite
happy with it.
