In http://www.usa.canon.com/EOS-1D/faqs.html I read:
Q: What is the EOS-1D's operating temperature range?
A: The maximum temperature is 45C /113F(85% humidity)
while the minimum temperature is 0C/32F, due to temperature
limitations in CF cards. When using a CFcard, please avoid
allowing the camera to reach temperatures below 0C/32F.
This was new to me. Does this then apply to every digital camera or
at least every digicam that uses CFs? What about a microdrive?
This minimum temperature limits the usefullness of digicams quite a lot.
A pro SLR must be useable to -20C when shooting winter sports.
