I can certainly agree that the bag quality of Billingham bags is excellent,
possibly the "finest" in soft camera bags but they are so overly proper,
boring and look like the people carrying them should be driving Range Rovers
and wearing Versace loafers. Not that there's anything wrong with that...
I just don't like the look of them and they are also rather stiff in terms
of how they can be used when compared with Domke bags which are by
definition flexible and very low key. A person carrying $10,000 worth of
Leica M and Zeiss' best glass can carry them invisibly in a Domke satchel
style bag.

Hi Chip !
In what way do you mean when you say "and they are also rather stiff in
terms
of how they can be used" ? I think they are anything but stiff/limited,
Infact i would go as far as to say that i have found my 550 to be the most
flexable bag i have used to date (And yes i too have suffered from camera
bag addiction :-) in the past i have used bags from tamrac, ccs, lowepro
(And others) at this moment in time i have a lowpro commercial sitting
unused in a cupboard not more than 10 feet away, Now some people say that
the commercial can hold a lot of gear (And that it does) but my 550 holds
more, And its more easy to carry around,
As for looks, Well thats purely a personal thing, But as camera bags go, I
would say that the billingham bags are more towards the low-key end of the
scale than the high-key end,
Also, After a year or two of use the 550 (or other billingham bags) take on
an even lower key appearence (Take a look at a crowd of press photogs an you
may see what i mean (Well at least here in the UK)).
But i must admit that the 550 is NOT the quickest bag to get into when all
fastened up, Although its not too bad if you leave the two buckles undone
and just use the zip (Or even just use the top flap/lid)

Anyhow, I think we have established that you don't like the billingham
range, So here's another range for you to look out for !
They are called CRUMPLER bags and they seem pretty low-key, And they are
soft and mould to your body like the billingham bags do, They also seem
fairly well made too (Although i have only taken a brief look at one so
don't hold me to that !)

And to finish with Chip, i would like to offer a quote that my old mother
like to tell me,
"It would be a very boring world if we all liked the same things" !!!

Take care Chip !!! :-)
