Hi,

The combo in question is the EOS-3 and 380EX flash (not on high speed
sync), used in M mode. When I was shooting indoors with a 200/2.8L, I
used A=f/5.6 and T=1/200s and let E-TTL do its bit. I noticed that
after a while, the camera suddenly showed me a 1/1000s shutter
speed. When I AF'd and shot, it dropped back to 1/200s.

I was really intrigued. It then occured to me that before I mounted
the flash, the shutter speed was set to 1/1000s in M mode. It still
seemed weird to me that the camera would keep switching between
1/1000s and 1/200s after the flash was mounted. Yes, I checked the
contacts. The flash was all the way in, and properly screwed on.

Anyone seen this happen? Any exlpanation?
