Yes, you can set flash exposure compensation from the EOS 1N and it will affect the flash. The 1N and 420EZ work together quite well. One minor thing, the 420EZ cannot display third stops and will show half stops only, even if you choose a third stop on the 1N. It will use the correct setting, though.
