It is possible to use flash triggered exposure meters with ETTL, but what
you need to do is to make use of the 10 second camera delay facility thus
giving you time to switch the flash meter "on" after the pre-flash, which
fires at the start of the 10 seconds, and before the taking flash.  OK for
still life, but a bit useless for portraits!
