I have to disagree slightly but agree it may work fine in some
cases.

First: There is a preflash which triggers the slave flashes even
if they are in manual mode. They are not triggered by the main flash
only, I have tried, they need the coded preflash from 550EX or ST-E2.
I'm not talking about the preflash which is used to measure the
flash exposure.

But if you point the ST-E2 away from the flash meter AND the flashes
are at high power then the preflash probably doesn't affect the
meter reading too much.

Prove me wrong and I'm a happy man...
