Kodak and other batteries, and many other devices, are not always made by
the company indicated on the label.
Case in point, Kodak video tape is made by SONY as are Mitsubishi
Diamondtron monitors.
GE batteries are made by Sanyo and are labeled nowadays as GE/Sanyo. Varta
is a european company but look to see where the battery was made. If Japan
it
would probably be made by Sanyo, Maxell, or Panasonic. Even Duracell does
not make all its own batteries. BTW, Radio Shack batteries and those in your
drugstores,
as well as the recently discontinued Costco batteries were all made by
Panasonic (known as National in many parts of the world.) Also if you care
to know the manufacture of your Nikon and Canon flashes (yes, the 550EX) are
by National/Panasonic. Minolta makes its own not sure of Pentax.
National/Panasonic also manufacture the Leica Minilux Zoom camera. Look at
your digital cameras. If the lens is labeled aspheric I can tell you for
fact the lens is actually made by Tamron. Its far cheaper for the camera
manufacturer (yes, even Canon) to OEM parts for products than build them
internally. Canon does the same with its LaserJet printer engines which are
in the HP LaserJet printers and others. Its an interesting world.
