I have a Rebel 2000. I used the 2 CR5 batteries until I bought the battery pack, mostly to get the extra shutter button, but the convenience of using AA batteries was a nice plus, too. I was able to get almost a year's worth of use out of my first set of the CR5s (maybe about 60-80 rolls, using very little flash, and almost all very short exposures -- not like your experience). I think your overnight exposures may have contributed to short battery life. (If I am wrong, I am sure someone will correct me LOL).
