  Are you sure you didn't have any longer time exposures? Just leaving 
the camera powered on doesn't take that much power. But most EOS 
cameras drain the battery when the shutter is held open.

  The Rebel 2000 is not on this list, but it would seem likely to use 
the same shutter design as most other modern consumer EOS cameras.
