| Thanks lot.

David,

Welcome to 100/2.8 (non-USM) macro hell :) The exact same thing
happened to me twice. The first time it was within 2-3 months of
purchase. There was a clicking/sticking feeling when I rotated the MF
ring. The second time the lens died, it was also within the warranty
period. I've written a short article about it here:
http://www.rsriram.ws/review-100macro.html

Eventually, after pressurising Canon and writing letters to Japan,
they extended my warranty to 2 years. Anyway, I sold the lens ASAP and
got a 100/2.8 USM - fantastic lens.

I believe this is not an uncommon problem with the old non-USM
100/2.8. If you're going to use AF, I'd suggest dumping this lens and
getting the new 100/2.8 USM. It's a fantastic lens, and AF is really
useable even at 1:1 magnifications.

Cheers,
Sriram.
