David, I have the whole line of Zeiss M42 lenses, and I'm using them
frequently with my EOS. As I have quit using the auto-metering of
the bodies (I have a Seconic 608 and use it all the time, as I don't
trust the the metering algorithms of EOS and G1).

The lenses perform very well (I use extensively the 20/2.8 & 200/2.8,
and sometimes the 80/1.8), and although I haven't compared them
with corresponding EF lenses, I'm absolutely satisfied with the
results. The 200mm with a 7-element 2xTC makes a pretty good
400/5.6

If you have any good M42 lenses, it's worth getting an adapter &
making some tests...
