Simple:  They want you to buy what they are selling, not what you saw
elsewhere.

If indeed Canon will do repairs and work on these so called

The difference, as I understand it, is that Canon USA will provide warranty
service on gray market items but Authorized Canon Service facilities may
not. In my case, there's a Canon USA facility that's not much farther than
the nearest Authorized Service shop, so gray market is fine for me. If I had
to ship my equipment off to a distant location for warranty service, I'd
think twice before purchasing gray.
