> What's your opinion of the Canon 24-85mm Ultrasonic f3.5-4.5 lens for EOS?
I have this lens and use it pretty frequently--it's a great all-around general purpose and travel lens. It's reasonably sharp in the center, but the corner sharpness is only so-so; this is only noticeable if you do your own printing (digital or traditional), since the cropping from a slide mount or lab print probably won't show the far corners. It shows some vignetting wide open, but it doesn't show up 99% of the time. It's a bit flare-prone, but it's manageable with the lens hood. If you can get a good price on it--which shouldn't be hard, since the gray/silver ones seem to be much cheaper than the black ones (I have the black version)--I'd recommend this lens. I'm glad I chose it over the 28-105, since I find the 24mm end of the zoom quite useful. The main drawback is the weird filter size...unless you have the 70-200/4 L, none of your filters for your other lenses will fit the 24-85...but I'm not a big filter user, so it's not an issue for me. Plus, someday maybe I'll have the 70-200, so it'll all work out. ;-) --Alex * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
