I normally use -2FEC *on the flash* (to avoid the automatic (& unknown) fill-in
compensation of the body)  and the flash was fitted with a Lumiquest Promax
Softbox.  At short ranges, the Lumiquest does its job of softening the flash
light very good.

I can't recall. f/4 I think, but I'm not sure.
