Ray,

This is an interesting arguement many times said by non-third party people.
Though it is possible that a 500 2.8 IS or whatever will not be compatible,
I strongly suspect this. In early years of development, third parties had
some incompatibility problems but it does not seem like there is anything
wrong nowadays.

YOu can also buy a used Tamron and then sell it - so your loss, if any, will
be minimal. Also, good lenses like Tamron 20-40, or the macro's, re-sell for
really good prices. Furthermore, if you look at some consumer lenses from
Canon, their resale price dropped considerably.

I use many third party flashes and lenses. None of them needed to be sent
for this reason. The only time I heard was with Elan II's and certain Sigma
lenses. And one T0kina lens and one canon camera. This is an overblown
issue.

Is there a single lens that does not work with 1D?

If somebody asks me what I use, I say Canon. What does that have to do with,
say, what brand of monolights I use? and why would it matter?

You can save money now, or always wonder what if.
