Hi Julian, For those cases, I use applied geometry... ... I put a ruler under the setup, take a snap and count the number of mm in the resulting slide. And for the effective aperture, I leave the math to EOS... ;-) Now getting serious, I remember to have read something about it in the book of Shawn (the "bible" of the macro photographer, some say. I didn't like it that much but I read it 2 times anyway... there're some tips in it worth the read time).
