You might want to take a look at the offerings from Newton Camera Brackets.
I currently own two N7200VG brackets, and have been very satisfied with
them. They allow the photographer to comfortably hand-hold the camera and
use the vertical grip (this is on an EOS 5 and D30 with the respective
vertical grips and battery packs). The Newton brackets essentially allow you
to use bounce flash regardless of camera orientation. With some of the
cheaper flip-brackets, you must adjust the flash after you change the camera
orientation if you are using bounce flash. Additionally, the Newton bracket
is well-balanced and allow you to hold the camera by the lens if you have a
f/2.8 zoom attached.

The N7200VG has been replaced by the Di100FRVG. Same bracket, different
name.
