It is a rather simple algorithm AFAIK. Starting at low EVs, it will first 
use maximum aperture until the shutter speed is shorter than 1/focal length.
Then both, shutter speed and aperture are changed at the same rate, 1 EV
more light means a half stop for both aperture and shutter speed. This
continue until one of both variables reaches its limit. The only special 
thing about it is the use of the actual focal length of the lens.
