Ray,
It will work well but you will lose some resolution with any TC. More with
the 2X than the 1.4x.
Sounds like you have 3 lenses you are considering. Consider the Sigma
70-200EX F2.8 HSM.
It focuses fast and is sharper wide open then the legendary 70-20mm F2.8L,
definitely better than the older 80-200mm F2.8L and better at 200mm than the
200mm F2.8 L fixed focal lenght lens. All is one package for about $600.
