ray first of the lens is still a 300mm lens with an view angle of a 480. it
is like shooting with a 300 and then cropping for the angle of the 480. you
don't have a 480mm lens. there is no extender in the d30 to make it a true
480mm lens. the IS stays the same.

If I use a 300 mm IS lens on a D30 camera, the effective focal length
becomes 480 mm.  Does the IS still help two stops or does the change in
focal length also change the effectiveness of the IS.  Since there is a 60%
increase in focal length would there also be a 60% decrease in the
effectiveness of the IS?
