Yes, right. The 1600 in the D30 have already been 
nothing but an emergency option for press purposes,
I rarely used it because of excessive noise.
To me, 800 ASA has been the maximum acceptable speed
setting. Your mileage may vary.

They are. At least here in Germany.

I rather wondered why 1000 and not stick to 800.
But that's maybe due to the fact that there are 
many many registration camera setups in scientific 
use and cockpit recorders, which formerly used
Kodak recording or T-max 3200, both with a natural
EI of 1000 ASA. I think that they see a major market 
here as well.

For me: Definitely.

Nope. Just more hungry. The D60 eats batteries a lot faster 
than the D30. With the D30 I carried 2 batteries in the 
camera and two spares. Now I ordered four more spares.
