Hi Bob,
As you may recall I shoot motorsports etc., I can tell you that the EOS 5
has the minimum usable AF speed that can provide acceptable results. But
even so it is not as fast as you may need often, your EOS 3 is clearly much
faster. As for the AF speed of a D30 I'd say it's no better than an Elan II
in terms of AF speed, if you have full daylight it can be used for sports
but you will find that the AF speed will catch you out an awful lot of the
time.
