HI WJM - thanks for the suggestions!! It's always great to hear from you. Yes, I have tried PF-21 which enables quieter film forwarding only after one lifts the pressure from the shutter button. Using this Personal Function via the ES-E1, the film drive is slightly quieter, but the sound of the mirror slap and the shutter recocking is still quite loud and obtrusive. That's the price we have to pay for the superfast mirror lag I suppose. Mirror slap, while greatly reduced in the 1V compared to the Eos 3, should be dampened further IMHO. Another drawback to using PF21 to muffle sound somewhat is that it only works with single frame film advance. If one was shooting wildlife and sets the camera to continuous high film advance, then PF21 no longer applies. The 1V's film advance is quiet enough IMHO; it's the sound of the mirror and shutter recocking that's making the bulk of the noise and Canon should try to eliminate that. I wonder if SLR makers can ever produce cameras that can match the low-noise levels of the Leica M series? Is this technically feasible? > > While not weatherproof, Metz makes a nice 50 and 70 GN hammerhead.... Yes, good heavy duty hammerheads - pity they don't support E-TTL and wireless flash functions in tandem with the 550EX units, or is there now a module that enable that? I'd get a Metz hammerhead for off camera lighting on lightstands and umbrellas if the unit is able to support wireless E-TTL with ratio control. That said, I still adore my 1Vs - they instil confidence when on challenging photo assignments and their strengths far outweigh their shortcomings. I think it's Canon's first pro calibre AF SLR that truly sets the industry standards. > - -- > Bye, > > Willem-Jan Markerink> > The desire to understand > is sometimes far less intelligent than > the inability to understand > > * **** ******* *********************************************************** * For list instructions, including unsubscribe, see: * http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/eos_list.htm ***********************************************************
