Not really. I have an EL-Nikkor 5.6/80 mm enlarger lens.
The crappiest piece of glass I've ever seen attached to
an enlarger.

With Rodenstock and Schneider in the Market, there is
not much to be gained for a prospektive competitor.
Not even counting the slowly dying market due to digital
photography....

I beg to differ. Look at http://www.photoquack.de/tutorials/ed30.htm
The blow up discussed there (2x3 meters from an original Jpeg out
of the D30) is nothing short of stunning. It depends very much on
the nature of the subject.

The question is which Nikon digital?

Also depends on the output method.

The dynamic range of modern digital cameras is superior to film.
And shooting digital, you get absolutely true colors from a Fuji
frontier lab even in series of fashion shots with a variety of
very dominant colors - pro lab standard at minilab cost.
