Ken,

I have used the Sunpak CA-1AF module with the 444D flash on my Elan for
years. It works great with my camera, but I don't know if all of the
functionality of the Elan 7 is supported. The connector on the side is for
an additional battery which is needed for certain flash model/camera
combinations. You shouldn't need it for your setup.

The manuals from Sunpak are pretty bad. The 444D has a mode switch on the
back with five positions - one manual postion, three auto positions which
use the built-in sensor on the module, and one auto-TTL position (blue
circle). To use the camera TTL functions set the mode switch to the blue
circle position and the power level switch to full power. The flash should
respond normally as would a regular Canon flash for the options provided on
the flash. The module supports the other operating modes as well, but
doesn't communicate with the camera.

Hope this helps.

Subject: EOS Sunpak AF module CA-1AF

Hi folks -

Has anyone on the list used this module with their EOS camera? I just
bought one 2nd hand, and have no manual. I'll be experimenting, but
I'm curious if it responds to the AF assist CF's like a Canon flash
would, and also what the 4-pin connector on the side is for. Is there
an online manual? I checked the Sunpak site, and nothing there. I'm
using it with a Sunpak 555, on an Elan 7.
