If I was considering the 16-35 right now, I would definitely buy it.
There is a lot of talk around the US in automotive circles that Ford is
about to revamp the Taurus. But I bought the current model. If I had
waited for the new Taurus I would still be driving my old car and not
enjoying it as much as I enjoy driving "the Bull". My point here is
that if you wamnt/need something you should buy it. Something newer and
better with different features will come along if you wait long enough.
But you won't have use of the item in the meantime. Oh yeah, the newer
better thing will probably have a higher cost too.
Somebody has to pay for the R & D.....
In your example, the R & D may be going on right now, but when and if
such lenses are announced, buyers will be paying for it.
And if digital ever does take over, there will still be many that will
not dump everything and switch to the new stuff just because of the cost
involved.
