The Minolta RD3000 is currently being sold off in the UK @ UKP500 + VAT (US$720) including a 22-80 zoom so I guess even Minolta don't expect to sell many at US$4000. Now for a more on-topic observation... I've seen a number of comments on various digital forums regarding the pixel size of the D60 and diffraction. If correct, and they seem convincing to me :), they suggest that the size of pixels cannot be made much smaller without the cameras becoming horribly diffraction limited. The comments claim that the D60's pixels are already the size of the Airy disks @ f11. For further details, see: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/viewtopic.php?TopicID=2975 This suggests that the only real mechanism to increase resolution if to increase the physical size of the sensor. This has the beneficial effect for Canon of reusing their existing design efforts for 35mm lenses as well as the beneficial effect for users of being able to continue to use their EF lenses. Of course, the above might all be wishfull thinking on my part since I want to be able to use my existing EF lenses with any future digital body I might buy... however, I can live in hope.
