We're thursday and you'd like to buy a light meter to use it in the weekend?
Sure you'll miss most shots, if not all, fiddling with the buttons, metering
off whatever and putting the values in Manual mode. There have been tips on
metering for sky-mostly events, like (spot-) metering from grass or the
asphalt.
Nothing worst than bringing new equipment to an event. Buy it if you want, play
with it in less critical moments and use it when you feel you can handle like
second nature.
My "amateur" EOS50 and 30 do a great and consistent job metering in partial
mode. Your 1V should do more than that, in particular when using spot metering
(and knowing *where* to meter from).
