Hi Arvid,

In that case, 1/1000s with f/2.8 is the light equivalent of 1/125s 
with f/8.

I suggest you set the maximum sync speed (1/125) in TV, then set the 
flash for 1 or 2 points underexposure in TTL. The 550 EX is a very 
powerful unit and even at f/8 can reach about 7 meters with ASA 100; 
with 2 points underexposure (TTL), it can go about 14 meters...

On the other hand, if you really want f/2.8, you can try using the 
special EX mode of the 550; I think the couple eos30 / 550EX can sync 
up to 1/8000. I have no experience with that, though - I use an eos 5 
with the 540EZ.
