Here some ponderings about my prefered use of the strap, converting 
the neck-strap in a hand-strap:

Even better than the official handstrap IMNSHO....:))
(you don't even need a bottom mounted eye for it, like with a bare 
camera (no booster or battery pack))

(the official strap is a bit risky too if you are in unstable conditions, 
where you would rather sacrifice a dent to your camera than not being 
able to grab something in an emergency....with my solution, this is 
easy, with the official strap you are, well, (s)trapped....;))
