The main difference would be distance. With the RS-60E3, you would be
limited by the lenght of the cable, with any extension leads added. I don't
know what the distnce is with the RC-1, but with the controlers for the 3
and 1V, it is much greater than the remote switch, without any extension
leads. Apart from that, they should offer the same functionality as the
shutter button.

I don't know about the Elan7, but for the 3 and 1V, there is a remote timer.
That is a neat tool, and offers a lot more than the remote switch. It is
useful for long exposures, time lapse etc.

What is "mid-shutter"?
