Da, don't use AF, go manual focus and use preselected marks.  You can also
use AF but prefocus on the runway, switch to manual find a detail that you
can use as a mark and as the model hits the mark fire.  Use a faster lens
for the faster, better AF speed they can provide but stop down 1-2 stops to
ensure good focus.  Use faster film.
