If you can't see it being bend askew/misaligned/decentered, I 
wouldn't worry about it.

There are no known 'dimple' problems with EOS cameras that I know of, 
the EOS-1 is definately fine.

Data-back (pepared/cutout!) pressure plates are a much more likely 
candidate for this tape-trick though.

Anything that is safe for a lens surface is also safe for a 
pressure plate....;))
